Muslim tobacco farmers from northern Greece’s Thrace region took part in demonstrations outside the Agriculture Ministry and Parliament in Athens, yesterday, against the planned 50 percent cut in European Union income supports for tobacco farmers until 2013. The subsidies had been intended to maintain farmers’ incomes while they switched to other crops.
