Greek stocks fall as OTE tumbles

Greeks stocks retreated 0.19 percent yesterday after a positive start to the session as a slide in OTE telecom offset gains in bank stocks. The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) benchmark general index ended at 3,327.91 points as gains in European markets helped lift the index to an intra-session high of 3,382, before buying interest ran out of steam later in the day. OTE tumbled 4.66 percent to a 13.10 euros. Index heavyweight National Bank gained 0.99 percent to 30.50 euros while Alpha Bank, which has yet to report first-half earnings, soared 4.89 percent to 18.46 euros. Losers beat winners 125 to 90 with 46 shares unchanged. Turnover fell to 132 million euros versus 197 million euros in the previous session.
