Stocks rise on profit figures

The Athens bourse reversed mid-session losses to end 0.74 percent higher yesterday as gains in index heavyweights National Bank (NBG) and OTE telecom rubbed off on the broader market. The benchmark general index closed at 3,267.94 points. National Bank, which unveiled first-half earnings after the close of trade, jumped 3.72 percent to 28.98 euros. OTE telecom also had a strong performance, gaining 4.78 percent to 14.90 euros, after reporting earlier in the day second quarter earnings broadly in line with market expectations. The FTSE/ATHEX 20 blue chip index added 1.10 percent, while the FTSE/ATHEX 40 mid-cap index gained 0.55 percent. Turnover was 248.4 million euros versus 138.5 million in the previous session.
