Siemens employees demonstrate

Employees of the Siemens factory in Thessaloniki marched yesterday in the northern city in protest at the possible shutdown of the production plant. Siemens is trying to sell the production facility but has yet to find any buyers, as the required investment is seen as being large for potential buyers. The government has asked the German company to keep its plant operating for another six months, allowing more time for a buyer to emerge. Workers, however, believe that the company is more interested in selling off the property the plant is located on, which is considered to be of high value. According to sources, there has been great interest shown in the property from large construction groups.
