Concerns at Siemens plant continue

Black flags were placed outside the Siemens factory in the northern city of Thessaloniki yesterday, as workers continued to protest against the possible shutdown of the factory. Communist Party (KKE) leader Aleka Papariga yesterday visited the factory, which is believed to have drawn the interest of an international investor. Government sources have refused to name the company but expressed optimism that the factory will continue to operate. Earlier this week, two representatives of the foreign buyers visited the site, inspected its facilities and spoke with worker representatives. The government has said it will intervene to help find a viable solution that will save some 400 jobs at the plant.
