Benchmark dips by 0.76 percent

The Athens bourse shed 0.76 percent yesterday on weak banks as investors selectively picked up blue chip shares. The Athens Exchange’s benchmark general index ended at 1,833.04 points after dipping to an intra-session low of 1,814 points. Alpha Bank, Greece’s third-largest lender, slumped 6.27 percent to 6.28 euros while National Bank gave up nearly 3 percent. OTE telecom added 2.08 percent to 12.76 euros and Public Power Corporation (PPC) jumped 3.31 percent to 12.50 euros. Major European bourses reversed early losses and moved higher in late trade yesterday, following a positive start on Wall Street. Turnover on the Athens bourse reached 161 million euros versus 138.5 million euros in the previous session.
