US news takes stocks lower

The Greek bourse recorded further losses yesterday in line with global markets after the rejection by the US Senate of a plan to lend $14 billion to car industries. The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index ended at 1,810.26 points yesterday, declining 1.28 percent from Thursday’s close. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index also dropped by 1.28 percent, to finish the week at 927.38 points. Outperforming other blue chips were the stocks of OPAP (up 1.69 percent), Hellenic Petroleum (1.05 percent), Motor Oil (1.03 percent) and Hellaktor (1 percent). The biggest losses were for the stocks of Intralot (down 6.45 percent), Bank of Cyprus (5.22 percent), EFG Eurobank (4.32 percent), Piraeus Bank (4.14 percent) and Mytilineos (4.10 percent). Turnover came to 134.9 million euros.
