Bill to bolster tourism now being drafted

National Economy and Finance Minister Giorgos Alogoskoufis (second from right) met yesterday with tourism sector representatives to discuss recent measures aimed at helping the industry get through the global crisis. Earlier this month, Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis unveiled a 14-step plan which includes increasing funds spent on promoting Greece abroad by 50 percent as well as tax breaks applicable to certain categories of property and loans. The measures will also help firms overcome the credit crunch by providing working capital and finance through the EU’s National Strategic Reference Framework (NSRF) funding program. Alogoskoufis said yesterday the draft law introducing the support measures is being prepared and will soon be tabled in Parliament.
