Stanleybet appeals against closure of betting premises

Stanleybet International betting agency appealed yesterday against the closure of its two offices in Athens and Thessaloniki last November, following legal action by state monopoly OPAP. On November 7 and 10 police arrested agents and three punters and confiscated cash, vouchers and electronic equipment. «The company complies with the legislation regarding its operating license in each country it is active,» said the communications director of Stanleybet International in Greece, Nikos Marangakis, in a written statement. «We are determined to defend a fair and competitive sports betting market in Greece,» the statement added. The hearing of the case is still pending. Greek law protects OPAP’s monopoly in sports betting until the year 2020.
