Stocks continue downward spin

The negative climate in European markets continued to affect the Greek bourse, forcing stocks further downward in yesterday’s session. The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index fell to 1,652.51 points yesterday, falling 0.45 percent from Monday’s close. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index declined by 0.56 percent to 845.91 points. Despite the rise of one of the bourse’s barometers, the stock of National Bank by 3.30 percent, most blue chips ended up with significant losses. Besides National, Mytilineos showed gains of 2.63 percent, followed by Coca-Cola HBC (up 2.47 percent) and Hellenic Petroleum (2.40 percent). Worst off were the blue chips of Public Power Corporation (down 6.06 percent), Viohalco (5.20 percent), Intralot (5.10 percent), Titan cement (4.71 percent) and Marfin Popular Bank (4 percent). Turnover reached just 128.7 million euros.
