Stocks rise after days of decline

Stocks on the Greek bourse posted a healthy rise yesterday following days of decline, taking the main index back above the 1,700-point level. The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index rose to 1,702.73 points, gaining 3.04 percent from Tuesday’s closure. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index expanded by 3.73 percent to 877.50 points. All but one blue chip registered gains in yesterday’s session. The index was led by Titan cement (up 6.30 percent), Hellaktor (5.62 percent), Piraeus Bank (5.56 percent), Coca-Cola HBC (5.37 percent), Intralot (also 5.37 percent) and Mytilineos (5.13 percent). Bucking the trend was the stock of ATEbank, which declined by 0.78 percent. Turnover reached a satisfactory 188.6 million euros.
