Stocks reverse opening gains

Greek stocks fell 1.86 percent yesterday on weak banks, reversing early session gains. The Athens Exchange’s (ATHEX) benchmark general index ended at 1,671.12 points after trading in the range of 1,661 to 1,742 points. Trading on major European bourses was mixed. Greek banks retreated 3.51 percent, racking up losses of 5.35 percent over the last week. National Bank took heavy losses, losing 5.42 percent, while Eurobank and Bank of Cyprus each ended 4.13 percent and 4.20 percent respectively in the red. On the upside, Public Power Corporation (PPC) gained 1.77 percent to 11.50 euros. The mid-cap FTSE/ATHEX 40 index outperformed, shedding 0.35 percent to end at 1.746 points. Turnover fell to 112 million euros from 188 million euros in the previous session.
