Greek stocks rise but trail peers

Greek stocks advanced 0.76 percent yesterday, trailing gains on major European bourses, despite a strong finish to the day. The Athens Exchange’s (ATHEX) benchmark general index finished at 1,744.05 points. Gaming company OPAP ended a roller-coaster ride up 0.09 percent at 21.50 euros after losing nearly 7 percent in mid-session trade. Banks advanced 1.36 percent, as investors shrugged off a Moody’s downgrade of three leading lenders – Eurobank, Piraeus and Alpha. National Bank outperformed, rising 2.36 percent to 13 euros. Germany’s DAX and France’s CAC 40 were both ahead more than 3 percent in late trade yesterday, while Britain’s FTSE 100 was 1.6 percent higher. Turnover was 128.2 million euros, up from 79 million in the previous session.
