Stocks down, turnover low

Stocks edged southward for yet one more session yesterday although their losses were not as great as they had originally appeared during the day. The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index declined to 1,474.35 points, falling 0.48 percent from Thursday’s close. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index shrank by 0.36 percent to close at 719.49 points. Piraeus Bank outperformed blue chips as it posted 8.48 percent growth on rumors that spread toward the end of the session about some very important developments to come. It was followed by Intralot (up 2.58 percent) and Eurobank EFG (1.11 percent). The biggest losses were for the stocks of Hellenic Petroleum (down 4.33 percent) and National Bank (2.18 percent). Turnover failed to surpass the 100 million euro mark, ending at 98.5 million euros.
