Index, turnover on healthy rise

The rise in the Greek stock market continued last week, with foreign and domestic investors also showing an increased interest in the local bourse, as the jump in turnover over the last few days has shown. The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed the week at 1,754.62 points, recording 4.95 percent growth from the previous week’s closure. The inflow of fresh capital from abroad in Greek blue chips and the maintenance of the positive climate across European markets helped the local market’s index edge closer to the year’s peak, which was 1,811.83 points on January 2. Yet the bourse has now left behind it the slim turnovers of the first few months of the year which ranged between 80 and 100 million euros and has had a much healthier average of over 140 million euros a day for the past few of weeks.
