Stocks bounce above 1,800 pts

The Athens bourse rose 4.5 percent yesterday, as gains in banks rubbed off on other sectors, sending the benchmark general index above 1,800 points. The Athens Exchange’s benchmark general index ended at 1,807.11 points, marginally off a session high of 1,810 points. Banks jumped 7.44 percent, the second-largest daily gain recorded this year. National Bank gained 7.28 percent to 13.41 euros, bringing its market capitalization to 6.6 billion euros. Bank of Cyprus soared just over 13 percent to 2.75 euros and Piraeus Bank closed at 5.59 euros, up 7.17 percent for the day. Gains in OTE telecom and Public Power Corporation were also solid, as their stocks gained 4.24 and 4.84 percent respectively. Turnover reached 188.2 million euros from 96.3 million previously.
