Loss contained by session’s end

Stocks on the local bourse posted what was seen as a moderate correction yesterday, after recovering some of the losses incurred over the course of the day. The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index declined to 1,907.43 points yesterday, falling by 0.95 percent from Monday’s close, but had actually dropped by up to 2.37 percent at one point during the session. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index contracted by 1.12 percent to close at 960.52 points. Only three blue chips showed any gains yesterday. They were Marfin Investment Group (up 3.91 percent), Hellenic Petroleum (1.02 percent) and Coca-Cola Hellenic (0.85 percent). The biggest losses were for the blue chips of Viohalco (down 4.23 percent), Bank of Cyprus (4.01 percent), Mytilineos (3.28 percent) and OTE telecom (3.19 percent). Turnover reached 132.8 million euros.
