Bank gains push bourse higher

The Athens bourse added just over 1 percent yesterday on the back of solid gains in bank stocks as profit taking pushed mid-caps into negative territory. The Athens bourse’s benchmark general index added 1.04 percent to 2,146.15 points, bringing gains in the last month to 11.30 percent. Banks rose 3.36 percent, led by a 5.82 percent rise in National Bank to 16.90 euros. Eurobank rose 2.35 percent to 7.40 euros. Public Power Corporation (PPC) also outperformed, adding 1.59 percent to 14.10 euros, ahead of Tuesday’s scheduled release of its first-quarter earnings figures. The mid-cap FTSE/ATHEX 40 index ended 0.01 percent in the red. Turnover reached 217.4 million euros versus 200 million in the previous session.
