Stocks rebound to post gains
Stocks on the Greek bourse staged an impressive turnaround early in the afternoon to erase morning losses and post gains at the end of the day. The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index moved up to 2,233.90 points yesterday, rising by 2.38 percent from Thursday’s close. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index increased by 2.94 percent to end at 1,146 points, while the small-cap FTSE/ATHEX 80 index expanded by 2.78 percent. The greatest growth among blue chips was for the stocks of Titan cement, up 6.41 percent, Piraeus Bank (6.26 percent), Mytilineos (5.32 percent), Marfin Investment Group (5.01 percent) and Eurobank EFG (4.87 percent). Moving southward were Hellenic Postbank, down 2.28 percent, and Hellenic Petroleum (1.71 percent). Turnover reached 239.7 million euros.
