Stocks climb above 2,400 pts

Greek stocks added 0.45 percent yesterday, in line with other major European bourses, ending above 2,400 points. The Athens bourse’s benchmark general index closed at 2,401.07 points after dipping to an intra-session low of 2,376 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index added 0.61 percent to 1,251.24 points. National Bank outperformed, rising 2.73 percent to 21.08 euros, and Alpha Bank inched ahead 0.70 percent to 10.03 euros. Coca-Cola Hellenic jumped 3.14 percent to 16.40 euros after reporting better-than-expected second-quarter profit figures. Pharmaceuticals firm Alapis plummeted 13.64 percent to 0.76 euros after announcing a rights issue at a deeply discounted 0.46 euros per new share. Turnover reached 209.7 million euros versus 189.6 million in the previous session.
