Bourse drops below 2,500 pts
Greek stocks fell 2.34 percent yesterday, ending below the 2,500-point support level, as banks took heavy losses. The Athens bourse’s benchmark general index ended at 2,468.00 points, just a hair’s breadth from a session low of 2,465 points. Banks underperformed, shedding 3.89 percent. National Bank slipped 4.78 percent to 21.90 euros and Eurobank lost 4.90 percent to close at 9.13 euros. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index shed 2.73 percent to 1,296.96 points. Public Power Corporation also lost ground, falling 4.05 percent to 15 euros. Toy retailer Jumbo, scheduled to unveil fourth-quarter earnings later this month, retreated 3.13 percent to 7.75 euros. Turnover reached 172.7 million euros versus 206.1 million in the previous session.
