Stocks gain 6 pct for the week

Greek stocks advanced yesterday as buyers switched to small- and mid-caps shares, helping push the broader market 0.53 percent higher. The Athens bourse’s benchmark general index closed at 2,753.23 points, showing gains of 6.16 percent for the week. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index inched ahead 0.51 percent to 1,466.84 points. Betting company OPAP slipped 0.06 percent to 18.11 euros. After the close of trade OPAP CEO Christos Hadjiemmanuil handed in his resignation to the government along with ATEbank head Dimitris Miliakos. Shares in state-controlled ATEbank jumped 9.94 percent to 1.99 euros. The mid-cap FTSE/ATHEX 40 index added 0.91 percent while small-caps (FTSE/ATHEX 80 index) rose 1.04 percent. Turnover reached 228.2 million euros versus 299 million euros in the previous session.
