Stocks drop on profit-taking

Greek stocks shed 1.3 percent yesterday on profit-taking in banks but buyers pushed small-caps higher. The Athens bourse’s benchmark general index ended at 2,855.07 points after dipping to an intra-session low of 2,828 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index retreated 1.30 percent to 1,534.47 points. Banks lost 1.49 percent. Eurobank gave up 3.25 percent to end at 12.20 euros and Piraeus Bank dropped to 12.63 euros, off 2.63 percent. Hellenic Exchanges, the operator of the Athens bourse, also underperformed, falling 2.77 percent to 9.82 euros. The small-cap FTSE/ATHEX 80 index firmed 0.44 percent. Turnover eased to 268 million euros versus 292 million in the previous session.
