More mobile text messages sent this festive season

Sending festive wishes to friends and family by SMS is continuing to gain popularity, according to figures made public yesterday by the country’s three largest mobile phone companies. Cosmote, Greece’s biggest mobile phone provider, said subscribers sent about 199 million text messages on its network from December 24 to January 1, showing an increase of 55 percent over last year, Vodafone said that the number of text messages sent on its network were 20 percent higher than last year, without providing any further information. Wind Hellas announced a 15.3 percent increase in messages sent by its customers to 111.05 million euros. All three companies said that their networks successfully handled the spike in traffic seen over the holiday season.
