Index up after volatile session

Once again the stocks of National Bank managed to turn things around on the local bourse and swing the mood from negative to positive in the week’s last session. But the day was dominated by remarkable fluctuations. The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 2,033.76 points yesterday, expanding 0.99 percent from Thursday’s close at 2,013.90 points. On a weekly basis, the index lost 5.17 percent of its value. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index grew by 1.66 percent to end up at 1,030.02 points. National Bank posted gains of 4.53 percent, followed by the blue chips of Hellaktor (up 4.21 percent), Marfin Investment Group (4.19 percent) and OPAP (2.61 percent). The biggest losses yesterday were for Viohalco (down 2.97 percent) and OTE (1.73 percent). Turnover amounted to 221.1 million euros.
