Moderate stock rise continues

Interest in bank stocks maintained the recent moderate rise on the local market, consolidating the main index above the psychologically important 2,000-point level, albeit with a particularly low turnover, the second lowest of the year so far. The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 2,058.41 points yesterday, expanding by 0.73 percent from Monday’s close at 2,043.40 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index rose by 0.78 percent to end up at 1,038.95 points. Intralot had the biggest gains among blue chips, with a 4.91 percent rise. National Bank rose by 2.87 percent and Alpha Bank gained 2.15 percent. Worst off were Public Power Corporation (down 3.13 percent) and Marfin Investment Group (2.83 percent). Turnover amounted to just 147.6 million euros, from 186 million euros on the previous session.
