Stocks rise to two-month high

Greek shares booked solid gains yesterday, climbing to a two-month high as a result of vigorous buying in bank stocks. The Athens bourse’s benchmark general index added 2.62 percent to 2,139.80 points, just short of the 2,147-point session high. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index gained 3.14 percent to 1,071.19 points. Banks rose almost 4 percent, with Bank of Cyprus jumping 6.38 percent to 5 euros. Betting company OPAP rose 2.78 percent to 17 euros and OTE telecom ended at 9.50 euros, up 2.37 percent. Power company PPC gained 1.84 percent to 12.70 euros. Hellenic Exchanges moved ahead 2.41 percent to 7.22 euros. Turnover reached 242.8 million euros versus 185 million in the previous session.
