Report helps trim stock losses

Upbeat news from ratings agency Standard & Poor’s yesterday contained the losses that local stocks had originally posted on the Athens bourse, with many blue chips even closing with gains at the end of the day. The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 2,112.67 points yesterday, shrinking by 0.50 percent from Monday’s close at 2,123.18 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index dropped 0.41 percent to end up at 1,057.43 points. Among blue chips, the biggest gains were for the stocks of Titan cement (up 2.58 percent) and Mytilineos (1.24 percent). Heading south were Hellenic Postbank (down 2.94 percent), ATEbank (2.86 percent) and Intralot (2.79 percent). Turnover rebounded to 143.1 million euros after Monday’s 99 million euros.
