Pressures send stocks lower

Strong pressures on the local market after negative news on the bond front pushed most stocks on the Athens bourse lower during yesterday’s session. The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 2,095.64 points yesterday, declining by 1.95 percent from Monday’s close at 2,137.37 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index contracted by 2.19 percent to end at 1,042.92 points. The biggest losers among blue chips were the stocks of Pubic Power Corporation (down 4.27 percent), Alpha Bank (4.05 percent), Marfin Investment Group (3.95 percent), Piraeus Bank (3.79 percent) and National Bank (3.29 percent). There were gains for OPAP (up 1.22 percent), Hellenic Petroleum (0.59 percent) and Intralot (0.28 percent). Turnover amounted to 145.8 million euros.
