Stocks may see firm start to the week

Greek stocks may move higher today, supported by gains on Wall Street, after testing support levels last week. The Athens bourse’s benchmark general index ended the last session before the Easter break with gains of 1.33 percent after sliding for three consecutive days. Brokers pointed out that the general index, which ended at 2,095 points on Thursday, lost 2.46 percent in the last week but kept the 2,070-point support level. Investors are likely to digest fourth-quarter earnings figures after the 2009 reporting season wound up last week. Proton Securities reiterated its 18.50 euro price target on power company PPC after it reported a net profit of 694 million euros for 2009. On the construction front, Piraeus Securities upped its price target on Ellaktor to 9.50 euros, from 9.20 euros previously. In afternoon trade, the Dow Jones industrial average rose 50 points and neared the psychological benchmark of 11,000 for the first time in 18 months.
