Financial crimes squad sent to check on seamen

Police in riot gear are seen preparing for a possible outbreak of violence at the port of Piraeus during recent protest action held by seamen in this file photo. Greek authorities, frustrated by the frequent strikes held by seamen in protest at a planned lifting of cabotage restrictions and impending pension reforms, ordered the Financial Crimes Squad (SDOE) to look over their books yesterday. Sources said that the Panhellenic Seamen’s Federation (PNO) will be audited but did not give any reason for the investigation. It is the first time PNO is being investigated by SDOE.
