Four in 10 firms to lay off staff; RES sector offers prospects

Forty percent of businesses believe they are likely to reduce their payrolls in coming months, despite half saying that they are optimistic about the future, according to survey results published yesterday. The survey, put together by ALBA Graduate Business School along with ECDL Hellas, showed that 40 percent of those surveyed said they may reduce staff levels in the next six months, while 17.7 percent are getting ready to hire workers. The data show business sentiment as split, with 50.2 percent of participants responding that they are still optimistic about the future of their business, 32.1 percent describing themselves as neutral and 17.7 percent saying they feel pessimistic. Recruitment prospects were best in the construction sector, particularly in the renewable energy sector, the survey added.
