Hellenic Postbank employees staged a 24-hour strike yesterday, protesting a proposed merger of the state lender with Piraeus Bank, which the government is reportedly considering. Hundreds of workers marched through the center of the capital yesterday afternoon to the Finance Ministry, where they voiced their opposition to the plan. Piraeus owner Michalis Sallas has suggested the company acquire 34 percent of Hellenic Postbank and 77 percent of ATEbank.
