Stocks dip but hold 1,500 pts

Greek stocks dipped yesterday, dragged lower by steep losses in Alpha Bank and Eurobank EFG, but clung on to the 1,500-point support level. The Athens bourse’s benchmark general index shed 0.70 percent to 1,501.87 points, after dipping to an intrasession low of 1,493 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index retreated 0.89 percent to end at 731.39 points. Banks lost 1.18 percent as Alpha Bank tumbled 4.39 percent to 4.57 euros and Eurobank EFG retreated 2.93 percent to 4.30 euros. National Bank outperformed, rising 0.37 percent to 8.05 euros. OTE telecom gave up 2.35 percent to end at 5.41 euros and power company PPC finished the session at 11.40 euros, off 2.31 percent. S&B Industrial Minerals, a metals and mining group, tumbled 4.21 percent to 3.64 euros and Terna Energy retreated 3.45 percent to 2.80 euros. Turnover fell to 69.5 million euros versus 77.5 million on Wednesday.
