Main index inches up in mixed session

A mixed session on the local bourse yesterday saw declining stocks outnumber gainers although the main index nudged higher thanks to certain blue chips. The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 1,487.39 points, growing by just 0.16 percent from Wednesday’s close. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index gained 0.18 percent to end at 709.62 points. The mid-cap FTSE/ATHEX 40 index rose 0.81 percent. The blue chips with the biggest gains were Piraeus Bank (up 2.01 percent), Public Power Corporation (1.50 percent) and Ellaktor (1.41 percent), while OTE telecom lost 2.88 percent, Bank of Cyprus dropped 1.42 percent and Motor Oil gave up 1.30 percent. In total, 66 stocks moved up, 73 went down and 65 remained unchanged. Maritime of Lesvos led the gainers with growth of 14.29 percent, while Attikat posted the biggest loss with a 11.11 percent drop. Turnover came to 68.6 million euros.
