Year lows on points, trade

The Athens Stock Exchange general index fell 60.27 points, or 2.75 percent, last week to close at a year-low of 2,137.40 points. Four of the week’s five sessions ended with losses. Another year low was set in turnover, which was only 310.57 million euros, an average of 62.11 million euros per session. Blue chips were hardest hit: The FTSE/ASE-20 index fell 3.78 percent, to 1,099.18 points. The FTSE/ASE-40 mid-cap index dropped 2.71 percent and the FTSE/ASE-80 of small-caps, 2.36 percent. All sectoral indices but one registered losses. The exception was non-metallic minerals, which gained 0.98 percent. Banks suffered the biggest losses (5.75 percent), followed by construction (4.64 percent) and insurance (-4.46 percent). Among the 369 stocks traded last week, 269 fell, 86 gained and 14 remained unchanged. The loss leaders were CPI (28.14 percent) and ANEK’s preferred shares (16.76 percent). On the other hand, Iktinos Hellas gained 30.43 percent and Moda Bagno, 23.39 percent. The week’s most heavily traded stocks were OTE, with an average turnover of 8.1 million euros per session, and Axon Holdings with 3.47 million.
