Stocks dip; early close for bourse today

Greek stocks dropped slightly yesterday on soft banks but outperformed sliding European peers. The Athens bourse’s benchmark general index gave up 0.30 percent to end at 1,423.92 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index eased 0.33 percent to 667.04 points. Banks shed 0.51 percent. Across Europe, Britain’s FTSE 100, Germany’s DAX and France’s CAC 40 fell between 0.4 and 1.2 percent. The Athens Exchange will be open today but will close early, at 3.20 p.m., due to the January 1 holiday.
