TANKERS Firmer conditions for VLCCs and Suezmaxes in all areas, while Aframax rates remain stable. On VLCCs and for 265,000 tons of cargo, «Tankers» tonnage was fixed at W/S 105, loading Nov. 15 with destination Singapore, while Vitol in Suezmaxes has fixed «Navion» tonnage for 135,000 tons of cargo, loading Mongstad Nov. 5, discharging US Gulf, at W/S 107.5. – On Aframaxes in the Med., Most has fixed M/T «Hellas Warrior,» loading Nov. 1 Banias, discharging Venice, at W/S 125, while Stasco has fixed M/T «Genmar Constantine,» loading Nov. 5, discharging Atlantic, at the same rate. – In the Cont., activity, as has been stated, is concentrated on the bigger vessels. The 80,000-ton round-trip voyages are being fixed at W/S 115, although this level will come under pressure due to a short supply. – Caribs with limited activity, while rates for the 70,000-ton cargo liftings are at W/S 130. – In the Cont., Stasco has fixed M/V «Alfa Italia» for 80,000 tons of cargo, loading Oct. 25 Black Sea, discharging UKC, at W/S 115. – In Caribs, Valero has fixed M/T «Kuban» for 70,000 tons of cargo, loading Oct. 30, discharging US Gulf, at W/S 130. – In W. Africa, CSSA for 130,000 tons of cargo loading Nov. 19, discharging US Gulf, has fixed Alliance tonnage at W/S 102.5. DRY CARGO Increased activity on Capers, mainly in Far East, with emphasis mainly on voyages. Cosco for 170,000 tons of coal, loading Nov. 15-29 Australia, discharging Korea, has fixed Korea Line tonnage at USD 5.34 per ton with 50,000-ton load and 35,000 tons discharge. – Panamaxes in the Atlantic are more active mainly out of the US Gulf. The fixture of the M/V «An Angel Omonia» at USD 12,500 daily, delivery Passero trip via US Gulf, redelivery Far East, clearly mirrors the present market’s strength. – Handymaxes in the Atlantic still command very high freight levels. Bulkhandling has fixed M/V «Blue Dream,» 45,916 dwt, built 1997, delivery Brazil end-Oct., redelivery West Coast, Norway at USD 11,000 daily. – On smaller sizes, Dreyfus has fixed M/V «Murat Kiran,» 38,888 dwt, built 1985, delivery east Med. end Oct., trip via Black Sea, redelivery Morocco, at USD 9,500 daily.
