SEGAS: Greeks abide by IAAF doping rules

The Greek athletic federation (SEGAS) hit back yesterday at a claim last weekend by International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) General Secretary Istvan Gyulai that some of its athletes have avoided making themselves available for doping tests. SEGAS said that Greek athletes have always abided by the IAAF’s regulations on doping. «We were surprised to hear that inspectors had come to Greece three times recently, asked Greek athletes to take tests and found very few athletes abiding. This unbelievable charge comes just days after all our athletes passed doping controls without any problems,» the SEGAS statement said. «It is certain that if there were violations as reported, the IAAF has nothing further to do than to punish us. Instead of this, some people prefer to misinform the secretary general of the IAAF and he, in turn, has made comments that slander our country and insult our athletes,» it added. (AFP)
