Vlasis Maras of Greece performs in the final on the horizontal bar in the World Gymnastics Championships in Debrecen, Hungary, yesterday, on his way toward winning the gold medal. Maras, who is also European champion, successfully defended his World title on the men’s high bar yesterday. He scored 9.725 to edge ahead of two-time World all-around champion Ivan Ivankov of Belarus and Slovenia’s Aljaz Pegan, both of whom scored 9.700 and shared silver. ‘My program was very good but a little mis-step on my landing kept me from getting 9.850. I am very happy with the gold,’ Maras said.
