A swallow inspired by a 4,000-year-old wall painting at Akrotiri on Santorini has been chosen as the symbol of Greece’s EU presidency in the first half of 2003. The white swallow and six stars are on a blue background. In pale blue is the olive wreath that serves as part of the Athens 2004 logo. ‘It inspires thoughts of the values for which the EU is fighting,’ Alternate Foreign Minister Tassos Yiannitsis said, unveiling the 2003 logo.
