Research areas
The study by the universities of Patras and Ioannina, funded by the Agriculture Ministry, was carried out in 2000-2002 in three slightly different areas. The first was done in the predominantly agricultural municipality of Velos, in the prefecture of Corinth. The municipalities of Konitsa and Mastorohori in the prefecture of Ioannina are part of a mountainous region characterized as «disadvantaged,» while in the municipalities of Kissamos and Innahori in the prefecture of Hania, Crete, the third area chosen, farming is complemented by other activities. In every region, three separate surveys were carried out – among representatives of institutions and organizations (a total of 58), local families (293 individuals) and among the immigrants themselves (65 individuals).
