Athens tops list of pending graft cases

Athens, Thessaloniki and Rhodes courts have the highest number of pending corruption cases involving civil servants, according to documents in the possession of a senior judge supervising an anti-graft drive. Supreme Court prosecutor Evangelos Kroustallakis – who last year called for a crusade against corruption, spurring the government to pledge a crackdown – is in possession of a list of pending cases from most parts of Greece, with the exception of the island of Samos and the area of Karpenisi, in a mountainous western region. Athens and Piraeus top the list with over 300 cases. Meanwhile, yesterday Interior Minster Costas Skandalidis and Prime Minister Costas Simitis met to discuss ways of eliminating public sector corruption.
