A monk shouts his support for an excommunicated fraternity of rebel Mt Athos monks, during a central Athens demonstration yesterday. Hundreds of people, including many subscribers to the Old Calendrist group that rejects the Gregorian calendar adopted in 1923, protested against the decision to evict the 100-odd monks from the 1,000-year-old Esphigmenou Monastery following their three-decade feud with Church authorities.
