More people fleeing Libya arrive on Crete

Another 2,800 evacuees from Libya have arrived at the port of Iraklio, Crete, after boarding a Greek passenger ferry.

The Eleftherios Venizelos, owned by ANEK Lines, docked reached Iraklio on Saturday morning. Most of those on board were Chinese workers.

Greece has pledged to help China evacuate up to 15,000 of its citizens from Libya, where fighting between pro-democracy protestors and security forces continues.

The evacuees have been taken to hotels in the Iraklio area, where they will stay pending their repatriation.

Two more Greek passenger ferries carrying foreigners leaving Libya are expected to dock at Iraklio on Saturday.
