Appeal to ‘vulnerable’ citzens to get flu jabs

Deputy Health Minister Christos Aidonis yesterday called on members of vulnerable social groups to get vaccinated against swine flu, warning that the anticipated onset of colder weather would facilitate the spread of the H1N1 virus.

Responding to a question in Parliament by New Democracy deputy Costas Markopoulos, Aidonis rebuffed criticism of the ministry?s handling of the spread of swine flu, noting that despite the state?s appeals, people were not going to get jabs. ?Unfortunately even nursing staff are not getting vaccinated,? Aidonis said.

So far this year 132 people have died in Greece after being diagnosed with swine flu while another 120 are in intensive care.
