Cold snap predicted for ‘Clean Monday’

Athens may experience snow over the next few days, including on ?Clean Monday? on March 7, which marks the start of Lent, according to weather forecasters.

The weathermen predict that temperatures will rise on Friday and Saturday but that a cold snap will grip much of the country from Sunday.

They expect snow and sleet in many areas and snow has been forecast for Athens?s northern suburbs on Clean Monday, which is traditionally marked by the flying of kites

Temperatures are expected to reach as low as -6C in some parts.

Snow has already fallen in northern Greece and drivers in central and western Macedonia have been advised to fit snow chains on their vehicles.
