Ministry refutes Al Jazeera report about arms ship
The Foreign Ministry on Tuesday issued a written statement refuting the contents of a report broadcast on March 11 by the Arabic television channel Al Jazeera quoting an ?eye witness? as claiming to have seen a Greek-flagged vessel unload weapons at the Libyan port of Tripoli.
The ministry said it had not been contacted by channel representatives to cross-check the reliability of the witness? claim and that an inquiry by Greek authorities ?elicited no information confirming this claim.?
The statement added that Greece fully respects the United Nations? arms embargo on Libya.
?The attempt to defame Greece is unacceptable,? it said.
