Strike to disrupt pension payments

Staff at the State Audit Council on Tuesday called a four-day strike protesting cutbacks in their service and to their pension fund.

The action is expected to hamper the disbursement of civil servants? salaries, including Easter holiday bonuses, and monthly payments to pensioners.

The audit council employees are angry at cutbacks to their funding which have been imposed as part of a broader drive by the government to reduce spending in the state sector and raise much-needed revenue to plug a gaping budget deficit.
