Juncker to meet with prime minister, president
The prime minister of Luxembourg and former president of the Eurogroup, Jean-Claude Juncker, on a two-day trip to Athens, is due on Tuesday morning to visit Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras at the Maximos Mansion before heading for a meeting with Greek President Karolos Papoulias.
Juncker arrived in Athens on Monday and delivered a speech at the Athens Concert Hall on the euro, in an event organized by the Luxembourg Embassy in Athens and the Hellenic Foundation for European & Foreign Policy (ELIAMEP).
In his speech he praised the coalition government’s efforts to meet targets outlined in the fiscal adjustment program, but stressed that it needs to persist with structural reforms. He also expressed his support for Samaras.
